The Last Midnight Purple Nissan You Can Buy New

The GT-R is gone. Its most iconic color lives on—exactly once more. The 2026 Z Heritage Edition wraps a 400-hp twin-turbo sports car in the color that defined Nissan performance, and only 500 will ever exist. Buckeye Nissan in Hilliard has allocation.

400 HP Twin-Turbo V6 6-Speed Manual Available 500 Total Production $55,910 MSRP

A Color With a Pedigree

Midnight Purple isn’t just a paint code. It’s a through-line connecting three decades of Nissan’s most significant performance cars. The 2026 Z Heritage Edition is the latest—and possibly final—chapter in that lineage.

1989 – 1996
The Z32 300ZX

Twin-turbocharged, 300 horsepower, and technology that rivaled European GTs at half the price. The Z32 proved Japanese sports cars could compete with anything. Its Deep Purple Metallic set the stage for what Midnight Purple would become.

1999 – 2024
The GT-R Era

Midnight Purple became legend on the R34 GT-R, then carried forward to the R35 through its final T-Spec editions. When the last GT-R rolled off the line, Midnight Purple retired with it—or so everyone thought.

2026
The Z Heritage Edition

For the first time, Midnight Purple crosses from the GT-R bloodline to the Z. Combined with Z32-era “Twin Turbo” graphics, bronze RAYS® wheels, and a carbon-fiber spoiler, the Heritage Edition bridges two of Nissan’s most celebrated performance lines.

With the GT-R discontinued, the Heritage Edition is the only way to buy a new Nissan in Midnight Purple. That window won’t stay open—Nissan is building exactly 500 units, and the color is exclusive to the Heritage Edition package.

Heritage Edition Exclusives

What the $2,940 package adds to the Z Performance

Midnight Purple Exterior

Exclusive to Heritage Edition. The GT-R’s signature color, unavailable on any other 2026 Z trim or current Nissan model.

Bronze 19” RAYS® Forged Wheels

9.5” front, 10” rear. Same RAYS forged alloy construction as the standard Performance, finished in a heritage bronze exclusive to this package.

Carbon-Fiber Ducktail Spoiler

With retro-styled “Twin Turbo” badge in white—a direct callback to the Z32 300ZX’s rear badging.

Bronze “Twin Turbo” Side Graphics

Z32-era typography running along both lower body sides. Nostalgic without being ironic.

Heritage Interior Details

Unique door sill plates and exclusive floor mats featuring the retro Z logo and “Heritage Edition” lettering.

Performance Grade Hardware

Every Heritage Edition starts here—standard equipment

3.0L Twin-Turbo V6

400 hp at 6,400 rpm, 350 lb-ft of torque. The same engine across every Z trim except NISMO.

Mechanical Limited-Slip Differential

Puts power to both rear wheels under hard cornering. A genuine performance upgrade over the base Z Sport’s open diff.

Akebono® Performance Brakes

4-piston front, 2-piston rear with red calipers. Significantly more stopping power than the Z Sport’s standard 2/1-piston setup.

Bridgestone Potenza® S007 Tires

High-performance rubber purpose-matched to the RAYS® forged alloy wheels.

9” Touchscreen, Bose® Audio, Navigation

NissanConnect® with Wi-Fi, Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™, and an 8-speaker Bose system with active noise cancellation.

Three Pedals, If You Want Them

In an era where most performance cars have abandoned the manual transmission entirely, the Z Heritage Edition gives you the choice. The 6-speed manual with SynchroRev Match is the same price as the 9-speed automatic—Nissan doesn’t charge a premium or steer you either way. That matters, because the way you interact with 400 horsepower is a personal decision.

The manual pairs with the same mechanical LSD and Akebono® brakes as the automatic. You get the mechanical limited-slip differential putting power down, the short-throw shifter keeping you engaged, and SynchroRev Match blipping the throttle on downshifts. If you’d rather let the car handle the shifts, the 9-speed automatic is responsive and well-calibrated with paddle shifters and Launch Control.

$0

The premium Nissan charges for the manual over the automatic. Same base MSRP regardless of transmission choice. The Heritage Edition starts at $55,910 either way.

Considering the full 2026 Z range? The Z Sport starts at $42,970 with either transmission, while the track-focused Z NISMO sits at $65,750 with the automatic only. The Heritage Edition occupies a compelling middle ground—Performance-grade hardware with collector-grade exclusivity.

Where It Fits in the Z Lineup

The Heritage Edition sits between the standard Z Performance and the track-focused NISMO. For $2,940 over the Performance base, you get a car that stands apart from every other Z on the road—and there will only be 500 of them.

Starting Point
Z Performance
$52,970

Z NISMO

420 hp, NISMO-tuned suspension, Recaro seats, Dunlop track tires. Automatic only.

Prices shown are Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Prices. Add $1,245 destination & handling. Excludes tax, title, and license.

What You Need to Know

How limited is the Heritage Edition, really?

500 units for the entire United States—split across every Nissan dealer in the country. There is no planned second run. Once the allocation is spoken for, that’s it. For context, Nissan sold roughly 8,000 Z cars total in recent model years, making the Heritage Edition a small fraction of an already low-volume sports car.

Is the Heritage Edition just a visual package, or is there more to it?

It’s a visual package built on serious hardware. The Heritage Edition is exclusively available on the Z Performance grade, so every one comes standard with the mechanical limited-slip differential, Akebono® performance brakes, Bridgestone Potenza® S007 tires, 9” touchscreen with navigation, and Bose® audio. The Heritage package adds Midnight Purple paint, bronze RAYS® wheels, the carbon-fiber spoiler, Twin Turbo graphics, and interior details. It’s cosmetic distinction layered on the most capable non-NISMO Z hardware.

What transmission options does the Heritage Edition offer?

Both the 6-speed manual with SynchroRev Match and the 9-speed automatic with paddle shifters and Launch Control are available at the same $55,910 base MSRP. No price difference between the two. The Z NISMO, by comparison, is automatic-only for 2026.

How does the Heritage Edition compare to the Z NISMO?

The NISMO is the track-focused option: 420 hp (vs. 400), NISMO-tuned suspension, wider rear wheels, Dunlop track tires, and Recaro seats for $65,750—but automatic only. The Heritage Edition offers the manual option, a more distinctive visual identity, limited production of just 500 units, and a $9,840 lower starting price. They serve different buyers—the NISMO is about lap times, the Heritage Edition is about character and collectibility.
